Umrah Packing Checklist 2026: What to Pack for Men, Women & Seasons
Quick answer
Pack your passport, printed visa and hotel confirmations first, then two sets of Ihram (men) or loose modest clothing (women), comfortable broken-in sandals, unscented toiletries, your regular medicines with prescriptions, a small backpack for the Haram, a power bank and a Type G adapter. In summer (May–September) plan for 40°C+ heat; in winter Madinah nights can drop below 10°C, so bring a light jacket.
Packing well makes Umrah far easier: less to carry through crowds, nothing forgotten at the Miqat, and no trouble at Saudi customs.
Use this as a printable checklist. Tick items off as you pack, and keep documents in your hand luggage, never in checked bags.
Travel documents (hand luggage)
- Passport valid for at least 6 months, with 2 blank pages
- Printed Umrah visa or eVisa and a copy on your phone
- Return flight tickets and hotel booking confirmations

- Small scissors for Taqseer

Health and medicines
Saudi Arabia controls some medicines, including certain painkillers, sleeping tablets and ADHD or anxiety medication. Carry medicines in original packaging with a doctor's prescription and only a personal quantity. Check the Saudi Food & Drug Authority guidance if you take controlled medicine.
- Regular prescriptions plus a few days' extra supply
- Paracetamol, ORS sachets, throat lozenges, anti-diarrhoea tablets
- Vaseline or anti-chafing balm (very important for men in Ihram)
- Blister plasters and foot cream
- Face masks for crowds; hand sanitiser (unscented while in Ihram)
- Sunscreen and lip balm (unscented while in Ihram)
Electronics and money
- Phone, charger and a power bank (power banks must go in hand luggage)
- Type G (UK-style three-pin) adapter — most Saudi hotels use it
- Local SIM or eSIM (STC, Mobily, Zain) bought at the airport
- Some SAR cash for taxis and small shops; cards widely accepted
- Small pocket Quran or dua book; earphones
Weather by season in Makkah and Madinah
- December–February: Makkah 18–30°C; Madinah can fall to 8–12°C at night — bring a light jacket
- March–April and October–November: warm, roughly 25–38°C
- May–September: very hot, often 40–45°C+ — umbrella, cap (outside Ihram), cooling towel
- Ramadan: crowds are at their peak; pack lighter and keep a prayer mat for the outer courtyards
What not to pack
- Scented products to use in Ihram
- Large amounts of cash without declaring (declare over SAR 60,000)
- Drones, alcohol, pork products and non-Islamic religious items in quantity
- Oversized suitcases if you plan to take the Haramain train
Frequently asked
Questions pilgrims ask about this
Short, direct answers to the questions we hear most often from Indian pilgrims.
How many Ihram sets should I take?
Two. Keep one in your hand luggage in case your checked bag is delayed or you need to change after it gets dirty.
Can I carry medicines to Saudi Arabia?
Yes, in personal quantities and original packaging with a prescription. Some controlled medicines need extra approval — check the official SFDA guidance before travelling.
What plug type is used in Saudi Arabia?
Mostly Type G (UK-style) sockets at 220V, though some places use Type C. A universal adapter is the safest choice.
Can I buy Ihram in Makkah?
Yes, shops near the Haram sell Ihram, but you must wear it before crossing the Miqat, so buy it before your flight.
What should I wear on the flight?
Men usually change into Ihram at home or at the airport before boarding and make the intention at the Miqat announcement. Women wear their normal modest clothing.
