Key takeaways

  • Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 and end around 9 March 2027, subject to moon sighting.
  • Prices rise steadily through the month and peak sharply in the last ten nights — often double or more versus the first week.
  • Book flights and hotels 3–5 months ahead (by October–November 2026) and apply for your visa 4–6 weeks before travel.
  • Your Umrah visa must be linked to a verified hotel booking (BRN). Bookings that cannot be verified are a common cause of delays.
  • Use the Nusuk app for your Umrah and Rawdah permits — Rawdah slots in Ramadan are very limited, so plan for flexibility.

Performing Umrah in Ramadan is one of the most rewarding journeys a Muslim can make. The Prophet ﷺ said that Umrah in Ramadan is equal in reward to Hajj (Sahih al-Bukhari 1782, Sahih Muslim 1256). That is exactly why Makkah and Madinah see their largest crowds outside of Hajj during this month — and why careful planning matters more in Ramadan than at any other time of year.

This guide is written for pilgrims travelling from India and Indian families living in the Gulf, UK, US and elsewhere. It covers the expected 2027 dates, how prices change week by week, what visa and hotel rules apply, and how to avoid the most common mistakes we see every season.

Expected dates for Ramadan 2027 (1448 AH)

The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so Ramadan moves about 10–11 days earlier each year. The dates below are astronomical estimates; the official start is confirmed by moon sighting in Saudi Arabia, usually the evening before.

PeriodExpected datesWhat it means for you
First ten days (Ashra 1)~8 Feb – 17 Feb 2027Lowest Ramadan prices, calmest crowds
Middle ten days (Ashra 2)~18 Feb – 27 Feb 2027Prices and crowds rise steadily
Last ten nights (Ashra 3)~28 Feb – 9 Mar 2027Peak prices; Laylat al-Qadr sought on odd nights
Eid al-Fitr~9 or 10 Mar 2027Many hotels require minimum stays over Eid

Tip: plan around the moon, not a fixed date

Because the start can shift by a day, avoid booking flights that leave you only one night of margin. If you want the 27th night specifically, arrive at least two nights before your target date.

How much does Ramadan Umrah 2027 cost from India?

There is no single price, because the biggest cost drivers — hotel distance from the Haram and the week you travel — change dramatically during Ramadan. The ranges below are typical per-person estimates based on recent seasons for a 10–14 day trip from major Indian cities, sharing a room. Treat them as a planning guide, not a quote.

Budget levelFirst 20 daysLast ten nights
Economy (hotel 800 m+ from Haram, 4–5 sharing)₹95,000 – ₹1,40,000₹1,50,000 – ₹2,20,000
Mid-range (500–800 m, 3–4 sharing)₹1,40,000 – ₹2,10,000₹2,20,000 – ₹3,50,000
Premium (Haram-facing, 2 sharing)₹2,50,000 – ₹4,50,000₹4,50,000 – ₹9,00,000+

Why the last ten nights cost so much more

  • Hotels near the Haram set minimum stays (often 5–10 nights) and charge their highest rates of the year.
  • Flights to Jeddah and Madinah from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Kochi, Delhi and Bengaluru fill up early; last-minute fares can double.
  • Ground transport between Makkah and Madinah is in heavy demand. Haramain train seats sell out, and private car prices rise.

When to apply for your Umrah visa for Ramadan

Indian passport holders normally travel on an Umrah eVisa arranged through an authorised provider, linked to a confirmed hotel and package. Some travellers — for example those holding a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, or GCC residents — may be eligible for a Saudi tourist eVisa instead, which also allows Umrah outside Hajj season. Check your route on our visa eligibility checker.

  1. October–November 2026: Fix your travel week, book flights and confirm hotels in Makkah and Madinah.
  2. December 2026 – January 2027: Collect documents: passport valid at least 6 months beyond travel, photo on white background, and confirmed bookings.
  3. 4–6 weeks before departure: Submit your visa application. Processing is usually quick, but Ramadan volumes can add delays.
  4. 2–3 weeks before departure: Download Nusuk, register with your visa details and book your Umrah and Rawdah permits.

Important: don't book non-refundable flights before checking eligibility

Every Ramadan we speak to pilgrims who booked flights before confirming their visa route or hotel verification. If your hotel booking cannot be verified, the visa cannot be issued in time. Get your documents checked first.

Hotel BRN and food rules you must follow

Saudi authorities require Umrah visa holders to have accommodation that can be verified in the official system — commonly referred to as a BRN (booking reference number). In practice this means:

  • Your hotel must be a licensed property that appears in the official system — not a private flat or an informal room.
  • The booking dates must match your visa and travel dates.
  • Package providers may also need to show transport and meal arrangements for the same dates.
  • Names on the booking must match passports exactly, including spelling.

Nusuk permits during Ramadan

Nusuk is the official Saudi app for Umrah permits and visits to the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi. In Ramadan, demand far outstrips supply.

  • Umrah permit: Book your time slot after you have your visa. Choose a slot a few hours after you expect to reach Makkah, to allow for traffic.
  • Rawdah permit: Slots are released in batches and disappear quickly. Recent policy has limited Rawdah visits to once per year per person, so choose your slot carefully.
  • Keep checking: Cancelled slots often reappear. Pilgrims who check regularly through the day frequently find openings.

Practical tips for fasting while performing Umrah

  • Do your Umrah after iftar. Many pilgrims perform tawaf and sa'i in the evening when they have eaten and the heat has dropped.
  • Carry dates and water for iftar inside the Haram; volunteers also distribute food, but crowds can be heavy.
  • Plan for Taraweeh and Qiyam crowds. Arrive 60–90 minutes early in the last ten nights to find space.
  • Elderly pilgrims may want wheelchairs or electric carts — book early. See Umrah for women, children and seniors.
  • Sleep in shifts. The rhythm of suhoor, Fajr, Taraweeh and Qiyam is demanding; plan rest during the day.
